Phone Numbers by Dominic Fike

First this song is actually really great and I highly recommend it. It sounds like a happy song but when you actually listen to the lyrics you see that it’s really about Dominic’s transition into fame. For example the line “Why you switch phone numbers like clothes?” basically talks about how he changed his number to avoid the people who only called him because of his gains and his following and only kept in contact with whoever he saw actually cared for him.

The song I will be reviewing today is “City of Angels” by 24k Goldn. I came across this song fairly recently but even on the first listen I knew this was one of my new favorites. Anyway the song starts off with “I sold my soul to the devil for designer”, so with this line I feel like he’s trying to communicate the basic sold my soul for fame idea that comes up a lot in pop culture. So he is basically saying that he sold his soul for designer clothes/ fame/ riches. On the other hand he also mentions that he doesn’t want to die young and some people tied this to the recent deaths of a few hip hop artists recently and that he just doesn’t want to die young.

Music Review #2

This week I will be reviewing Good News By Mac Miller. So the song starts off with a mellow and slow beat with some percussion in the back and gives a soothing soft tone to the song already. When the lyrics finally start he talks about he was thinking all morning and wondering why things can’t be easy and why does everyone need him. He goes on to ask why can’t he ever get a break and is always apologizing to people and how he doesn’t even know why sometimes. The chorus says that all he wants to hear is good news. Overall I feel like in this song Mac talks about how he’s always tired of people needing him and just wants to take a break from everything but it seems like he can’t ever get one so he uses singing as a way to ground himself from everything. I feel like this song is supposed to be sad but it gives a calming vibe as you listen but when you actually try to understand what he says you realize how its actually supposed to sound.
